Love birds and Daisies

I have some more Gelli print cards today.  This first one was made with a couple of gelli prints I did early on when I was working out prints for other projects.  The glue and purple one made a perfect landscape background for Stampin' Up!'s Upsy Daisy image.

For this anniversary card for friends, I used the Gelli Plate to do the background with leaves cut on the Silhouette.  For the first layer, I used shades of green and then did a 2nd layers of blues with the leaf mask in place. The green shows through where the mask was.  I added some hand outlining with a green Zig marker as a last minute touch.

The first are also Gelli prints cut on the Silhouette.    A wood veneer heart finishes and some stitching finish off the casual card.

Hope you are having a crafty weekend!

Holiday Pocket Pages

Happy Spring!

Here are my Christmas pages.  Ha! OK, I might be a bit behind but then again I just don't scrap chronologically anymore and I love it that way.

We had a few holiday outings or visits with friends and family that I wanted to highlight. I went with pocket pages because in some cases I didn't think I really had enough for a page.  For this 2nd one, I really could have and probably would have been happiest with a traditional page.  Still, I got to play with my gelli plate for that one.

The first, more traditional, layout is here.

The 2nd page with Gelli Prints here.

I think Washi works so well on pocket pages as it adds color, adds no bulk at all and is easily wrapped to the back of the card where it stays secure.  I also did some stamping on the first page for accents.

Hope you are having a happy start to Spring or Fall.  Thanks for visiting!

Gelli Plate Prints Video

Hi!  It has been busy and stressful around here.  My new Gelli Plate has been a great way to relax and have fun.  After making some new prints with a dollar store find, I decided to do a video.

Watch at YouTube:

TrueStamp is coming up soon!  If you are a stamper, here is more information on the event.  Through March 20 use code POTOFGOLD  and click here...  TrueStamp 15

I'm also working on a two part video for a pocket page layout from Christmas.  One of the pocket pages will use some gelli prints.  Stay tuned...

Thanks for watching!

New Scrapbook Stuff

Oh, how wonderful when the mailman brings a package from A Cherry on Top!  Even more wonderful when it arrives earlier than expected.

I haven't ordered more than one item at a time - closeouts and Amazon stuff - in months so I loaded up with several new papers, chipboard albums, a few embellishments, a pack of Thickers (got to have a pack of Thickers) and some new color makers.  I'm trying Prima's new mist, Faber Castell's pearl texture paste and one of those Distress colors of the month.

Here are the goodies shown in the video:

Clever Title

Idioms and sayings make great scrapbook page titles.  When I blogged about the great deal I got on my new glasses a few months ago, I used the title "Do Men Still Make Passes... at girl's who wear glasses?"  I thought I would use that for the page title, but realized it just didn't fit the story.

So finally I did a Google search for idioms and eyes.  I got dozens of sayings like "dollar signs in the eye" and "eye of the storm"  I decided on "easy on the eye" as this is all about the ease and inexpensiveness of buying glasses online.

The Silhouette got to do a few things for this page as well.  The paper is from last year's Stampin' Up! Sale-a-bration.  I'm working down my older stash as I just have some new products in that need putting away.

Here's the video on YouTube:

A mix of old and new

A lot of old products and a few new tools came together for these cards.

I used the Gelli Plate with paint to do the backgrounds on some old book paper.  The prints are subtle but the Gelli Plate is a great way to get a very even application of color.

The stamp set is one from Stampin' Up! that was retired by the time I acquired it.  I used Stampin' Up! markers for coloring the designs.

Two of the greetings were done using the Print and Cut feature on the Silhouette.  With all my stamps, I still don't have a very good "Happy Birthday" greeting.

Doing cards in the evenings is a great stress relief for me.  Thanks for stopping by today!  I plan to have a new scrapbook process video up this week.

Gelli Plate Papercrafting

I'm a bit obsessed with my new Gelli Plate. Somehow I found Gelli Arts through Facebook. I'm not a big fan of Facebook but they posted such beautiful projects I started following them.  I didn't know what a Gelli Plate was, envisioning a machine of some type.  It was several weeks before I started watching YouTube videos on how to create prints with the Gelli Plate.  I was quickly hooked and had to have my own.

The Gelli Plate is a gel pad.  It is a flexible surface that isn't mechanical in the least.  You apply paint, use various tools to make impressions in the paint or remove some of it and then press down paper on top. When you lift up the paper you have a design.  You can stop there or repeat with more layers.  Sometimes, oftentimes, you get surprises.  I am keeping a drawer full of my prints and flip through it when I start a page or project to see what I can use.  Sometimes I use the Gelli plate to print for a specific project.

For these cards, I did some prints specifically for them and others were part of the stash.

I'd like to do some videos on this fun tool.  I've started with a 2 part-er to show what kind of prints you get on what mediums and what you can do with them besides art journaling. I think many people use their Gelli plate for art journaling but I am using it for cards, scrapbook pages and mixed media canvases.

The 2nd video is more on technique.  I labeled it a Do's and Don't's video as there were several things I discovered in these early days of using the plate.  There are a lot of great how to videos out there as well.

Here is Part 1 on YouTube:

And Part 2:

There is much more to learn with this fun tool.  I've certainly had my $30 worth of fun already and look forward to more.  Look for more videos and gelli prints on future projects.

The mystery of the lost books

LOAD - Layout A Day has wrapped up for February 2015.  One of the greatest benefits to me from LOAD happened in late January.

The theme was books from our childhood.  So I went searching for my little books as I mentioned in another post and layout. The amazing thing that happened was looking for those books led me to find one of my most prized possessions that has been lost for 30 years!

I found my entire set of 56 Nancy Drew books!  I really thought my mother threw these away.  I couldn't find them at her house and I didn't take them when I moved.  She had no idea where they were - until this January.

In keeping with Nancy Drew, I wrote the journaling in 3rd person and tried to make it sound like one of the old mysteries:

In late January, Lisa steered her minivan into her parent’s driveway and quickly entered the familiar den.  She was often called on to assist her parents with technical problems.  Today there was an issue with the new wireless connectivity box the phone company had sent them.  After working on this problem, she asked her Mother if she had Lisa’s Little Golden Books from when she was a little girl.  Her mother wasn’t sure and pointed her to a chest in the den. Lisa moved a heavy white metal basket filled with magazines aside to get to all the drawers which yielded only a few photos but no books.  When moving the basket back into place, she spotted a Peter Rabbit book.  “Where did this come from?” she asked her mother.  Oh, that is one of your little reading books.  I know where those are.” She followed her mother down the narrow stairway to the basement as her mother pulled cords for bare overhead bulbs.  Gingerly her mother pulled off coverings to reveal several cardboard boxes of books! Lots of reading books.  After a few minutes, she said, “And here is another box of books.”  Lisa looked up and was astonished.  Her Nancy Drew books - 56 hardback books she thought were lost forever!  Here they were all were 30 years later in one box. She hugged and kissed her mother.    She remembered the joy of getting a new mystery and sharing it with her grandmother who loved to read them as well.  She liked to pretend she was Nancy, dressed in a smart sheath, driving out in her convertible to investigate a crime.  Now she had solved her own mystery! No discovery could make her happier than having all these precious books from her childhood back.

For the page I used a sketch from last year which you can find in the 2014 Sketchbook.

Also I used some pearls as I was obsessed with the kind of clothes Nancy wore in the illustrations, pearls included.

Here's the process video at YouTube:

Thanks for watching and stay tuned for some new things coming along in March.
