Doing a layout with a nice photo that just captures a moment allows freedom to really make the page with any supplies.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">I'm using this page as the title page for all of 2022. I had already printed the photo 5x7 so I just needed to create a background, add a title and embellishments. Months ago, I ordered some Strathmore 12x12 watercolor paper. It is the only paper that comes in that size I know of, at least that is reasonably cost effective. I wanted to use it for scrapbook backgrounds. For this page, I painted dahlias as that was one of the flowers growing in the garden we were visiting when the photo was taken. I used one of my own yellow dahlias as a rough guide for how to paint them. I added markers for a more graphic look.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">The numbers 2022 were actually one of the more challenging aspects of the page. I do want to find different ways to do lettering as I'm not planning to replenish my Thicker stash when I finally wear it down.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">Here is the process video:</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/6NvpTaoB3Q4" width="320" youtube-src-id="6NvpTaoB3Q4"></iframe></div><br /><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;"><br /></span><p></p><p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">Likely my future videos will be more technique specific. I enjoy making process videos but with only 100 views or so per video, I honestly do not feel I am reaching a large audience for the amount of work that goes into these. I so appreciate those of you who watch. I do plan to continue to scrap and make videos while looking for a way to create content that helps more people. </span></p><p>Thanks for watching!</p>Lisa Echerdhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01931699670624176202noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2479581457298734230.post-44501636453772350282023-08-09T09:28:00.001-04:002023-08-09T09:34:17.046-04:00My First Watercolor Sketchbook<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUvCjROezeSRiITexFIdzsnjYgxh_CuZZywK80QN21vmZOtYwKJgNL0hxMWY2RgGN35ZG_zS9RB194S8b5ztG09L4VP4aTBNfTBs69QaLlG7G-VVoNPWLMV3inxYR-VNPG1ZSc6gByXGI_hhXaGS5dJd-Xd9NGUZpooC5-FYCPnt98HLO4Azjp_2K7lnQ/s3210/20230808_161534_edited.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2301" data-original-width="3210" height="286" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUvCjROezeSRiITexFIdzsnjYgxh_CuZZywK80QN21vmZOtYwKJgNL0hxMWY2RgGN35ZG_zS9RB194S8b5ztG09L4VP4aTBNfTBs69QaLlG7G-VVoNPWLMV3inxYR-VNPG1ZSc6gByXGI_hhXaGS5dJd-Xd9NGUZpooC5-FYCPnt98HLO4Azjp_2K7lnQ/w400-h286/20230808_161534_edited.jpg" width="400" /></span></a></div><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;"><br /></span><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;"><br />I started painting with watercolors over a year ago. At first it was just to create cards. I wanted more variety than I could get with stamps. Frankly, I didn't want to keep investing in stamps which took up money AND space. I would practice a particular design until I could paint it decently, make cards and move on. Eventually though I enjoyed painting more and more things.</span><p></p><p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">Many people paint in a sketchbook but I wasn't sure it was for me. I was concerned that 1, I would mess it up. I would paint something I hated and then see it every time I flipped through my sketchbook. And 2, what if the opposite happened and I painted something I loved. The 2nd thing was happening with painting on loose watercolor paper and those things that were pretty good were getting turned into cards. Then they were gone and I had no reference. So eventually I bought an Etchr Labs Watercolor sketchbook and was hooked.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">It took me less than 3 months to fill it. I've been quilting on and off since the 1980's. I've never worried about creating something for a show. This quilt wasn't really created for the show but I entered it because I was particularly proud of the quilting. Apparently the judge liked it to as it won Best Free Motion quilting - Stationery Sew Head. This was a local show with about 300 total entries. Many are quilted on traditional long arms and some were hand quilted. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">Here's the layout I created to celebrate:</span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/l4PHmmd3OjA" width="320" youtube-src-id="l4PHmmd3OjA"></iframe></span></div><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;"><br /></span><p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">Thanks for visiting today!</span></p><p><br /></p>Lisa Echerdhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01931699670624176202noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2479581457298734230.post-76259397149439251802023-07-17T07:15:00.002-04:002023-07-17T11:41:40.666-04:00Scrapbook Process Video: Make It Myself<p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;"> </span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6eAprRmNpVxH4hUP71v0zyReodarwMdVmdxRoh0bsgTbfCeh29QD3FR8_1N8bwGaEJpHzbL2iQ1sUaIapTlLmv3Ml48ruRUln7RFgTNmciN9Y9efMbMNgF2Ua_qbqyFTvulqUo8uSzN-Upo3qQIZhDytC24RnU1GbtNrRWH-ZR9rvELIYJZNP3UyipCI/s1911/Scrapbooking%20Process%202%20Photo%20Custom%20Fabric%20Title_edited.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1074" data-original-width="1911" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh6eAprRmNpVxH4hUP71v0zyReodarwMdVmdxRoh0bsgTbfCeh29QD3FR8_1N8bwGaEJpHzbL2iQ1sUaIapTlLmv3Ml48ruRUln7RFgTNmciN9Y9efMbMNgF2Ua_qbqyFTvulqUo8uSzN-Upo3qQIZhDytC24RnU1GbtNrRWH-ZR9rvELIYJZNP3UyipCI/w400-h225/Scrapbooking%20Process%202%20Photo%20Custom%20Fabric%20Title_edited.jpg" width="400" /></span></a></div><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;"><br /></span><p></p><p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">I know you can really set yourself up for disappointment if you have too many expectations for fabric choices. Mostly I prefer to work with the 12x12 scrapbook format. I have used them successfully to capture a particular event or a life history for someone else. I've never made a mini for myself other than a small one just for motivational quotes.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">I'm choosing a mini now to scrapbook my success last year in gardening around our home. We have always had some flowers and plantings. Some years I'm more industrious than others. Most years though I lose interest in the heat of the summer and let the weeds take over. I can't say that in 2022 I didn't have some weedy areas but overall it was much better and the areas I really focused on looked good well into fall. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">These photos also tell a little of my Mother's story in that many of the items I put in my garden came from her house. I didn't have time to take many cuttings from her plants. There was just too much to do getting the house ready to sell and keeping up the landscaping there. I did save a lot of her garden ornaments and furniture for myself and I've used some of these items around my house.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">My mother and my grandmother were talented gardeners. My thumb isn't quite so green but I'm learning and enjoying the results.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: large;">A mini album can take a few days to a few weeks to complete along with other projects. In this first video, I share how I organize an album and keep everything organized while the project is in process. I plan to do a lot of mixed media techniques so I'm starting off all the pages with a gesso base.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/ubi4-V6eDW0" width="320" youtube-src-id="ubi4-V6eDW0"></iframe></div><br /><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;"><br /></span><p></p><p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: large;">In the next video I share some of the mixed media techniques, the embellishments and how I will incorporate the stories behind the photos. I will not video every single page as that would get tedious for you and for me. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: large;"><br /></span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/kCeBYMo0IiM" width="320" youtube-src-id="kCeBYMo0IiM"></iframe></div><br /><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;"><br /></span><p></p><p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">More videos are coming in the next few days, stay tuned...</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">Hope you enjoy. They really can.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">The keys to making a resolution work are:</span></p><p></p><ul style="text-align: left;"><li><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">Keep it simple</span></li><li><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">Make it positive</span></li><li><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">Be something you will do every day</span></li></ul><div><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">And don't make it a goal but a step towards your goal.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">I have goals to improve my watercolor technique and my free motion quilting quality in 2023. Part of achieving those goals is a need to practice, practice, practice.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">So my crafting resolution for 2023 is:</span></div><div><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">Practice watercolor and/or free motion quilting every day.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">It's very simple. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">It is positive in that it is something I will do versus having a resolution NOT to do something.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">It is something I can do every day. Making it one or the other makes that easier. Sometimes my watercolors supplies are not out or my long arm area is buried in fabric for another project. At least one area though should be available and even a few minutes of daily practice will help.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">Here's another example:</span></div><div><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">I also have long term health goals. I joined a gym in the fall of 2021 and am exercising more. I still think I need to add more exercise. So my resolution is to:</span></div><div><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">Add 15 minutes more movement each day.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">Movement in this case is exercise to include walking, weights, or even easy isometric exercises I've picked up in exercise class. I might climb up and down the stairs and walk around the house a couple of times. Anything that is consistent movement for 15 minutes that I wasn't going to do anyway. If I go to an exercise class, I want to go in 15 minutes early and use the elliptical or bicycle before class. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">So it is simple and not a burden to do.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">Again, this is a positive action.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">And I have to do it every day.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">I had thought about making the resolution only for days that I don't go to the gym but I think it works best if it is for every day.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">This is what works for me on resolutions. I will admit that even with this formula I've had years where I didn't stick to my resolution every day but I've had many successful years also. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">Here's my video where I share this strategy and my plans for 2023.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;"><br /></span></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/nbkWtP1b-X0" width="320" youtube-src-id="nbkWtP1b-X0"></iframe></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Have you made resolutions?</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Happy New YEAR!</div></div><div><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: large;"><br /></span></div><p></p>Lisa Echerdhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01931699670624176202noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2479581457298734230.post-58015122444090107592022-12-29T08:04:00.003-05:002022-12-29T10:46:52.569-05:00Best of 2022<p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">In 2022, I returned to scrapbooking. Those and a couple of completed projects are shared in this video. This is intentional. My craft storage space is limited. As I am doing more and more sewing and quilting, I need space for those supplies and equipment. Stamps were taking up a lot of the storage space in my craft room and they weren't getting a lot of love in recent years. I tried watercolors with the idea that I could draw in designs and then paint the images with watercolors. This would give me a wider range of images and use far less space.</p><p>My idea is working in that I'm using stamps even less and have given away quite a few sets. I am doing things a bit differently in that I'm doing more traditional watercolor painting. As long as it is simple, I can attempt it. I'm not a talented artist. I really can't draw unless I have some serious guidelines. But I have found this to be very fun and rewarding. Watercolor supplies really don't take up much room at all.</p><p>I still have a lot of my stamping supplies though. I kept my Distress Inks and I have many mediums such as Ranger's Perfect Pearls. So in this card, I've incorporated stamping supplies and watercolors.</p><p>The video shares 3 cards. One is entirely watercolors, another is all stamps and inks and a third is a hybrid with some stamps and some watercolors.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/RukhFEsFwhc" width="320" youtube-src-id="RukhFEsFwhc"></iframe></div><br /><p><br /></p><p>Stay tuned for more videos on my other crafts coming soon.</p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>Lisa Echerdhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01931699670624176202noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2479581457298734230.post-32504340826130079882022-09-11T18:24:00.003-04:002022-12-08T07:38:16.244-05:00Some paint needed<p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">I haven't bought any scrapbooking materials in a long time. Is it still hard to get a bright blue color?</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">If so, this solution can work for you as well or for any color that is difficult to come by. You just need some paintable Thickers or chipboard. For the Thickers, use watercolors. For chipboard, use any kind of acrylic paint.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">Here's the video of my layout with a painted title and some embellishments.</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/ZAmayu07Xgg" width="320" youtube-src-id="ZAmayu07Xgg"></iframe></div><br /><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;"><br /></span><p></p><p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">Thanks for watching!</span></p><p><br /></p><p></p>Lisa Echerdhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01931699670624176202noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2479581457298734230.post-48164588068870689342022-08-30T18:04:00.001-04:002022-08-30T18:04:31.165-04:00Using some stickers<p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">Birthday pages for us are usually about how we celebrate the birthday. I've been busy gardening and quilting. And I'm back making videos - this time I'm making quilting videos!</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">Recently I completed this baby quilt for a family member welcoming her first baby girl. She has boys. The nursery is decorated in navy and peach. This is my take on the color scheme.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">I think it is one of the prettiest quilts I have ever made.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">The fabric for the nursery has large peach flowers. Using the Sister's Choice quilt block, I arranged the fabrics to replicate an open flower. The quilting further accentuates the design. Part one of a two part series of videos shows how I created the quilting. This can be done on a home sewing machine or a long arm.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">Here's the first video:</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/_jc_OLyPSjE" width="320" youtube-src-id="_jc_OLyPSjE"></iframe></div><br /><p></p><p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">For the border, I used a slightly darker thread so it would show up a little more but not so much contrast as to highlight my mistakes. I've created a double arch border with lots of loopy quilting. Also some curved crosshatching fills in the gaps and adds to the arched effect. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">Here is the video for the border quilting.</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Coyphnv4psI" width="320" youtube-src-id="Coyphnv4psI"></iframe></div><br /><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;"><br /></span><p></p><p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">And a couple more close up photos:</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZ9zmcinG1g_UHKjNiFImLv_OsOCm6NUIiiyUI2HKb7BZVzZBDYgYiOXlVRJnalarVbiA_b6PAbDUcclGLNPFsXxNijktAEB0RWwYcqcmDUz_l5fAGc0wfhkFOkjdx6ctc6JI3e1fUDIorqJTwxRXhX3bml7X7zfeEsJSuf5Tylc1ZG0JqbOt7eHbH/s4032/Border.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2268" data-original-width="4032" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZ9zmcinG1g_UHKjNiFImLv_OsOCm6NUIiiyUI2HKb7BZVzZBDYgYiOXlVRJnalarVbiA_b6PAbDUcclGLNPFsXxNijktAEB0RWwYcqcmDUz_l5fAGc0wfhkFOkjdx6ctc6JI3e1fUDIorqJTwxRXhX3bml7X7zfeEsJSuf5Tylc1ZG0JqbOt7eHbH/s320/Border.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTMbNBtLno5tu5UK4k2cp74PjawsGRRw6g03q5Ic3hJE_jO-fjs5b_usBex92ZgPuNohAeZuuBW3MPpnmZhkSTiaAPPTyNaPLtwN00CqD6zZqosVHypbNp8YoytjmbbFLmKG6VM4XvU14luMQgWGXdRCjGqxYvfZZwch8z0EDtYCnLZB4HFGUJ3GQZ/s3736/Cover%20Photo.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2102" data-original-width="3736" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTMbNBtLno5tu5UK4k2cp74PjawsGRRw6g03q5Ic3hJE_jO-fjs5b_usBex92ZgPuNohAeZuuBW3MPpnmZhkSTiaAPPTyNaPLtwN00CqD6zZqosVHypbNp8YoytjmbbFLmKG6VM4XvU14luMQgWGXdRCjGqxYvfZZwch8z0EDtYCnLZB4HFGUJ3GQZ/s320/Cover%20Photo.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;"><br /></span><p></p><p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">Thanks for stopping by. This used to be a blogging event but moved to Instagram at some point. I didn't jump in until day 3. I'm really enjoying the quilts and more importantly the stories behind them. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">Each day has a prompt and the participants, which can be anyone, post a photo that relates. Today's prompt is "Origin Stories." An example is 'how did you get started quilting?' My answer was my first recollection of asking a family member how to quilt. My grandmother didn't have a quilt in front of her, she had given up quilting when her family was grown and she moved to small home. She answered by using the corner of her apron to emulate how you would stitch in arcs to put together a quilt. I now know that this is the Baptist fan pattern.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;"><br /></span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjbjIqWR7nXt3_-1GsLmArjg030xjqI_ic_3UrGwsmYPJlYt6GNUXahkp2UGt0gCk3HXKl8BRILCFWgRHdc8Wu2WxKyYguNDuESwj7Hjhht_xumia_5h1vLN7KykRlfWfLKEffbIuhh2zBuQmvQijhZ72uTjz4y-zIHwyt5Qgf534e1gTM-UDN5k9Jq=s2000" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1500" data-original-width="2000" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjbjIqWR7nXt3_-1GsLmArjg030xjqI_ic_3UrGwsmYPJlYt6GNUXahkp2UGt0gCk3HXKl8BRILCFWgRHdc8Wu2WxKyYguNDuESwj7Hjhht_xumia_5h1vLN7KykRlfWfLKEffbIuhh2zBuQmvQijhZ72uTjz4y-zIHwyt5Qgf534e1gTM-UDN5k9Jq=s320" width="320" /></span></a></div><p></p><p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">Yesterday's question was about Why we each like to quilt. My answer is that quilting can be so many things and I used the quilt pictured here as my example.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">To make the design above, I sketched the hearts and a little of the swirl and then quilted in black thread just adding the rest of the stuff as I went. It is a style of graffiti quilting. Then I painted in the hearts and all the rest - one red heart for my husband one one more pink one for me. I haven't put a binding on it. I love the design but there are some flaws. I'd like to redo it sometime and make it a little more perfect. In this video, I create two cards with watercolors used on embossed resist backgrounds. These impactful backgrounds are easy to do. With watercolors, you can create an endless number of colors. I stick to the palette in this video but you can always combine colors to get what you want. It would have been easy for me to get the purple I was missing by just mixing some red and blue in a dish. It's much harder to color mix with stamp inks.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">I've enjoyed this series and I hope you have as well. So why do I have all this stuff?!</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">I've also discovered that I can color with the same medium that takes up little space and is great for so many other things - watercolors. Gelli printing is adding paint or other media to gelli plates and then pressing the plate to a surface, usually paper. I've gelli printed papers of all kind including book paper. I've used tissue paper and deli paper for some fun effects. Once I had even tried fabric using a fabric medium but I didn't like the results.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">Last year, I came across some fabric paint from <a href="https://www.jacquardproducts.com/textile-color">Jacquard</a>. Initially I only bought two colors of their textile paint. Now I have about 20! As I said in a recent video, I'm a sucker for products that come in a rainbow of colors. Although it can be used on other surfaces, it is perfect for fabric as it keeps the fabric supple rather than creating a stiff, unworkable surface.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">This is the process I used to create the border fabrics for the leaf series on my <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/LisaEcherdArt">Etsy shop LisaEcherdArt</a>. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;"></span></p><p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">To create the fabric above, I set out all my supplies on a well covered work area. I have a new video series starting today. I am creating cards using watercolors along with stamps and regular papercrafting supplies. </span><p></p><p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">As I am doing more and more sewing, I need more and more crafting space for supplies. I've consolidated some of my storage and given some unused things away. Now when I need space, I'm having to make some difficult decisions. I knew this day would come so I started playing with watercolors more last year so that I could hopefully eliminate some stamps and inks. The latest casualty of my cleanup has been my Stampin' Up! inks. I prefer Distress Oxides and the SU inks just weren't being used very much. A friend was delighted to get my old stamp pad stand. </span></p><p><span style="color: black;"><a href="https://youtu.be/7DR0D8DgzDI" target="_blank">Cards with Watercolors</a><br /></span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="266" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/7DR0D8DgzDI" width="320" youtube-src-id="7DR0D8DgzDI"></iframe></div><br /><p><br /></p><p><span style="font-family: Quicksand; font-size: medium;">In the videos I share some ideas for using watercolors in place of inks and other media.
